FOR THE second consecutive year, Forbes Manufacturing and Marketing Ltd. and WAHL Clipper Corporation, hosted a special WAHL workshop/seminar at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston last Monday (June 5). Attended by barbers in and around the Corporate Area, the special guest was the world's number one ranked barber, Chicago's Garland Fox.
Fox introduced the barbers to the latest and best in barbering tools and products currently on the market. He also introduced them to the WHAL clini-clip spray disinfectant. Unlike other disinfectants that take 18 minutes to work, the clean-clip works within one minute, making it the most powerful disinfectant on the market. This eliminates the possibility of transferring any form of infection from one client to the next.
He also introduced the No Sting/splash-on astringent. This is alcohol free so it does not create the harsh burning sensation like those that contain alcohol.
The big moment was the introduction of what he describes as the "Mercedes Benz" of clippers the WAHL Detailer. This clipper has only been seen in two states in the United States. In highlighting the unique features of the clipper, he told the barbers, "You got to have the best to be the best."
CORDLESS CLIPPER
Fox also introduced his own design, the gwhiz. A small compact, lightweight yet very powerful cordless clipper. The gwhiz works with a single AA battery so it's a great travel companion without being concerned with voltage difference.
Managing director of Forbes Manufacturing and Marketing Milton Forbes, told Flair that the workshop is an educational workshop. It seeks to recognise barbers as an integral part of the grooming industry. It provides them an environment to be exposed to modern techniques and tips on maintaining a sanitary salon, to be organised as a business making it comfortable for clients.
He notes that they also encourage the barbers to become licensed. "It's good for them to operate with regulations to protect themselves and their clients," he said. He said they are trying to elevate the standards of barbering so they can call themselves professionals.
