Roads and sidewalks need attention
published: Tuesday | June 6, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM very concerned about the condition in which the roads and sidewalks have been left after the 'cables' have been laid. With the impending 'rainy' season, many of these dug-out areas will convert to mini-gullies after a good shower of rain.

I have observed that the roads that have been repaired are the ones in the New Kingston area. However, the stretch of road leading from Elletson Road, Deanery Road and the sidewalk by Camp Road, is in a deplorable state. I am sure there are other roads, but these are the ones that I frequent.

THE WORST PART

In one stretch of Elletson Road, the imitation repair job is falling apart already. Who from National Works Agency (NWA) supervises or oversees the repair job? The worst part is that some of these roads and sidewalks were in the best condition that they have been for a couple of years.

In the vicinity of Jessie Ripoll Primary School, the many students from the
surrounding area had to be walking in the road for a period of time as a result of the inconvenience of not being able to use the sidewalk.

I am, etc.,
