THE EDITOR, Sir:
PERMIT ME space to respond on behalf of RBTT Bank to a 'Note-worthy' letter published on page A9 of The Gleaner on Thursday, June 1.
The letter, which is well-intentioned and written by Dr. John Hall, congratulates RBTT Bank on its recognition of the artist Ken Spencer, but also chides the bank for mis-spelling his middle name, which he purports to be 'Abendana', as it is popularly assumed.
I would like to state for the record that the bank did in fact conduct its research and consulted with one of Ken Spencer's daughters, Ms. Marsha Spencer, who in turn directed us to his lawyer and manager of his estate, attorney-at-law, Oswald P.D. James.
LETTER TO THE BANK
Mr. James in a letter to the bank dated March 8, 2006 wrote as follows:
"We act as attorneys for Estate Ken Abondarno Spencer. We confirm the correct spelling of the late artist's middle name to be 'ABONDARNO'.
"We appreciate that you have taken the time to ensure the planned tribute to Ken Abondarno Spencer will be correct in this aspect of his persona, which is often times incorrectly spelled."
I am, etc.,
