A special day for Manchester High
published: Friday | May 12, 2006

Angelo Laurence, Gleaner Writer

TEACHERS' DAY was observed at several schools across Manchester with students as well as parents making the educators feel special. For teachers at Manchester High School, Wednesday was a memorable day.

They were treated to a day of entertainment, gifts and lunch in a setting fit for royalty at the historic Manchester Golf Club. While rocking to the music of Dwight Richards and company they were served by school board members and given prizes and trips to various destinations.

Guest speaker, Senator Donna Scott-Mottley lauded the teachers for the contributions they have made to society despite the many challenges they face.

The senator said she paid tribute to the teachers because she was aware of the daunting task they face trying to produce well-rounded students in a thankless job. The job, she said, is made more difficult because teachers must compete for the young minds which are influenced by other things.

TEACHERS A DRIVING FORCE

Teachers, she said, must also "face parents who will knife them to death for trying to instil discipline in their children."

Insisting that teachers were the driving force behind the many great persons within the community, Mrs. Scott-Mottley lauded them for their great time management skills, given the enormous responsibilities they have. She challenged the teachers to keep on doing what they are doing.
