Spanish Town electors rush to reverify
published: Friday | May 12, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine:

HUNDREDS OF persons converged on the electoral offices in Spanish Town trying to meet the last-minute extension by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EoJ) to have their names added on the 2006 voters' list. May 10 was the absolute deadline announced by Danville Walker, director of elections.

At the Regional Six office along Brunswick Avenue, persons waited patiently in queue.

Some persons expressed the view that the reverifiers "were always in a hurry", and did not operate within a flexible time frame.

"We cannot have people giving such a deadline and expect you to rush and meet them at their beck and call," remarked George McNeil.

Pearlene Carr told The Gleaner that she did not understand the process as she received a notice from the EoJ threatening to take her off the voters' list.

The South Central office at Greendale had less activities but several persons waited anxiously to get their name on the list.
