HEALTH MINISTER Horace Dalley has ordered the establishment of a ministerial review committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of two-year-old Joel Wong, and the treatment of seven other children from the Glenhope Place of Safety in St. Andrew.
It was reported this week that young Joel took prescription tablets from the tray of an attendant who was dispensing medication to sick children at the home and gave them to seven others, telling them they were sweets.
THREE-MEMBER COMMITTEE
Rashida St. Juste, public relations officer at the Child Development Agency (CDA), said a three-member committee will be announced once the proposed individuals have agreed to undertake the enquiry, which is expected to commence May 15.
A four-week time frame has been set for the probe, after which a final report is to be submitted to the Health Minister.
Meanwhile, the CDA is in the process of developing a more comprehensive system, detailing procedures relating to the receipt, storage and dispensation of medication.
The two children who remained in hospital at the weekend have now been discharged.
