published: Wednesday | April 19, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

CLIFFORD WARMINGTON, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Member of Parliament for North West St. Catherine, is to return to the Spanish Town RM Court on May 11 to stand trial for assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court has been told that on October 9, 2004, the complainant, Esdraldo Nembhard, dressmaker of Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine, was assaulted by the Member of Parliament about 1:30 p.m. that day after she went to his office in Old Harbour. She had gone to enquire what had transpired between the Member of Parliament and one of her relatives.

It is said that Mr. Warmington came out of his office, asked her to leave and, before she could, shoved her. She is said to have fallen and hit the back of her head. She sought medical attention and the Member of Parliament was later summoned by the police.

Mr. Warmington, who has made numerous court appearances since the incident, has maintained his innocence. He is being represented by attorney-at-law, Patrick Atkinson.

He last appeared in court on April 13.
