SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THE SECOND annual Hellshire Kite Festival and Fun Day, held at the Hellshire Beach Club in Portmore, St. Catherine, reaped moderate success on the weekend.

Only a small number of patrons were at the venue when The Gleaner visited the Hellshire Park area on Monday. The crowds, however, improved during the day, though the much-touted Kite Festival was not to be.

Those who attended the Easter Monday festivities took time out to have fun at the six-a-side football competition, volleyball and other water sports.

An organiser of the festival, Len Lee from the Kiwanis Club of Hellshire, said the lack of crowd support may have been as a result of persons going to the nearby Hellshire Beach instead of the Beach Club.

LOCATION

"Last year we kept it at Hellshire Park and we got better support, so perhaps its the location," he said.

Several persons who took part in the day's activities said it was a well-conceived idea and that they hoped it would continue in Portmore. "Mi like it man, and mi hope that them keep it again next year because we enjoy the fun," remarked nine-year-old Jevonne. The fun day was put on by the Hellshire Park Community Club and the Kiwanis Club of Hellshire.
