published: Wednesday | April 19, 2006

Tashieka Mair, Gleaner Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

ONE OF two police constables charged with breaches of the Corruption Preventions Act was granted bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Thirty-five year-old constable, Peter O'Connor, charged jointly with constable Ricardo Evans, 29, was granted bail in the sum of $100,000.

ATTEMPTING TO SOLICIT MONEY

Both men were charged with attempting to solicit money from a motorist.

Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry ordered O'Connor to report to the Montego Bay Freeport Police Station on Tuesdays and surrender his travel documents. Constable O'Connor was also warned to stay away from the complainant.

Constable Evans, who was before the court in February 2004 on a similar offence, was remanded until May 2. He is facing two counts of breaches of the Corruption Preventions Act and four counts of assault at common law.
