Munro, Papine in U-16 showdown
published: Friday | March 24, 2006

MUNRO COLLEGE and Papine High will contest today's Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Boys' Under-16 hockey final after they emerged victorious on Wednesday.

In a copy-cat script of the Under-19 competition, Munro had to get by Jamaica College to make the final.

A comfortable 3-1 victory ensured that they did just that to have a chance of following in the footsteps of their older counterparts, who won the Under-19 title.

Brothers Kharey and Matthew Amair were the stars for Munro in the victory, as the former netted twice while the latter added a third. Tusani Paraque scored for JC to end the first half.

Papine's road to the final was a little more complicated than that of Munro's as they had to pull out all the stops to get by a game Campion College. At the end of full-time the teams were locked in an enthralling 3-3 tie.

For Campion, Michael Chi-Chong was on the scoresheet twice, while Nicholas Hudson grabbed a goal of his own.

Papine played like a team possessed though and were determined to be in their second final of the season.

Their opportunity was afforded to them by Akeem Williams' double strike along with O'dean William's lone goal.

With the scores locked, the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued and Papine were the team that made the best of the moment.

The shoot-out went to the final strikes where Orane Reid was proclaimed hero of the evening when he converted after Campion's Patrick Morgan missed his effort.

The final between the teams that have stamped their class as the best teams in schoolboy hockey will be played at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, while the third-place play-off will begin at 2:00 p.m.

There will also be a 1:00 p.m. game between Wolmer's Girls and Excelsior, who will compete in the final preliminary round division one girls fixture to decide the third and fourth-placed play-off teams.
