DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Eltham moved one step closer to the final of the Grace Shield Premier League with a first innings points victory over neighbours, St. Catherine High yesterday.
In their second and final semi-final round match, Eltham picked up three points to add to the two they got in a tie against A League champions Tarrant last week.
Having completed their semi-final fixtures, Eltham will now be hoping that St. Catherine (zero points) can pick up at least first innings from Tarrant (two points) next week when they meet at St. Johns Road.
TIGHTENED
In Group B, the race for the final spot has also tightened following Jamaica College's (JC) first innings triumph over Mona. The result has left the section in the balance.
Mona are now hoping that Meadowbrook pick up at least first innings points from JC next week. On the other hand, JC only need first innings, which would take them to six points, one more than Mona, who completed their fixtures on five.
In yesterday's action, St. Catherine, replying to Eltham's 334-9 declared, were dismissed for 120, with Errol Marsh taking 5-27. Sean Lee top scored with 50 for St. Catherine.
Forced to follow-on, St. Catherine reached 226-9. Roland Franklyn, 57, and Jermaine Gordon, 54, led the way in the second innings while Sandre Watson claimed 3-38.
MONA DISMISSED
At Old Hope Road: Replying to JC's 232, Mona were dismissed for 138. Elvis Watson picked up 4-33 and Jeffrey Laing 3-16. Batting a second time, JC fell for 129 with Dellano Mullings, 39, leading the way, while Dwayne Burbles picked up 3-20.
Set 224 to win, Mona lost early wickets and in the end had to settle for the draw. Lenardo Wilson, 36, and Kemar Wilson, 37, got the most runs against Watson, 4-59, and Oliver Walker, 2-15.
