published: Friday | March 24, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

TOP GUNS Wolmer's Boys and Heinz Simontich will look to defend their titles against Hillel and Holy Childhood when the Cable & Wireless secondary schools tennis competition comes to a close at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre tomorrow.

In yesterday's Under-19 encounters, Wolmer's edged Montego Bay's Team Work High School 3-2 in the boys' semi-finals while in the girls' section, Heinz Simonitch clipped Campion by the same scoreline.

FINE START

Eldad Campbell got Wolmer's off to a fine start when he beat Kaswayne Nelson 8-4.

However, Marcus Malcolm brought the Montegonians back into it when he blew away Sadique Elliot 8-1.

Kristopher Martin then restored the lead when he got the better of Mckoy Malcolm 8-3 and then teamed with Campbell to put the match away when they got by the team of Nelson and Malcolm 8-4.

Marcus Malcolm and Dave Smith scored a consolation win for Team Work when they beat Elliot and Stephen Hunter 6-5. For Heinz Simonitch, Pauline Hylton defeated Campion's Lana Chung 8-0 to get them off to a good start.

STORMING BACK

However, victories for Campion's Jodie Pownall and Carlene Carr saw them take a 2-1 lead.

The defending champions, through the teams of Hylton/Chin and Isobel Whittaker and Kadene Ferguson, came storming back to take the last two doubles game.
