published: Saturday | February 25, 2006

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION and Campion College retained their titles at the Mayberry Investments High Schools/Universities Swim Meet at the National Stadium yesterday.

Immaculate romped to victory in the girls section with 569 points, way ahead of second place St. Andrew High's 356, while Campion College copped third with 270 points. The top five were rounded off by Wolmer's (230) and Holy Childhood (135).

Campion College, like Immaculate were also in dominant form, scoring 501 points to Wolmer's 360 to lift the boys title. St. George's College with 228 points got the better of Kingston College 191. Jamaica College rounded out the top five with 88 points.

The University of the West Indies returned to winning ways, notching, 324 points to annihilate the advances of the pre-University, who ended with 73 points. The Caribbean Maritime Institute was third with 18.

Seventeen records went tumbling with Brad Hamilton accounting for four and the University of the West Indies' Dominic Lee erasing three.

Campion College broke three meet records in the girls' 12 and under and boys' 13-14 200-metre freestyle relays, along with the boys 13-14 Medley Relay.

UWI were also in fine form, breaking the boys and girls 17 and over 200-metre medley relays.

NEW RECORD

A new national age-group record was set in the girls 13-14 50-metre butterfly, as Dominique Dawson hit the wall in a time of 31.81, shattering the old mark of 32.04.

After the meet, the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica's vice-president in charge of swimming, Kendis Nangle, said the meet had gained momentum and he looked forward to today's Prep/Primary Schools event.

"Congrats to Mayberry," he said. "They upped their sponsorship and included more prizes. The atmosphere was even more electric than last year and that is in part due to them," he said.
