TWO GOALS by Kevin Lamey led Waterhouse to a comfortable 2-0 win over Boys' Town in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League game at Waterhouse Mini Stadium yesterday.

However, this did not enable the second place Drewsland team to gain on leaders Harbour View who, courtesy of a Richard Edwards strike in the 73rd minute, maintained their eight-point advantage atop the standings.

Harbour View, playing with 10 men after Gregory Simpson was red carded in the 75th minute, moved to 54 points. Arnett's Kevin Wilson was later red carded at the 82nd minute.

At the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium, Lamey's 14th and 15th goals of the season came in the first and 30th minutes and pushed Waterhouse to 46 points.

Lamey, remarkably, joins Fabian Dawkins of Village as the leading goalscorer, after playing most of the season off the bench and also missing a number of matches.

SPOONED CHANCES

On any other given day, Lamey could have scored at least six times, but he spooned his many chances in front of national technical director, Wendell Downswell, who was in attendance.

Waterhouse, with their heart set on catching Harbour View, got off to a dream start in the very first minute of play.

Irvino English's corner kick was headed on to the crossbar by the tall Oneil Robinson before Lamey turned in the rebound past the hapless Kirk Porter in goal.

Lamey then pounced again in the 30th minute to head home from another corner kick, this time arriving at the near post ahead of three static Boys' Town defenders.

Winning coach, Wayne Fairclough, was pleased with the points but thought his team had a bad tactical game.

"Today's game was not a very good game. Tactically we fell down. We scored two goals in the first half from Kevin Lamey but that was just about it," he said.

"I think coming off a high, beating Harbour View twice we became complacent," he noted.

Meanwhile, Andrew Price, Boys' Town's technical director, said his team was not up to the clash and gave a low-keyed performance.

"We weren't as competitive as we would have hoped today. You can't afford to come here at Drewland and expect it to be easy going.

DISAPPOINTED

"I was very disappointed that we gave up two goals from set plays and we can't allow that but I have to give Waterhouse credit because they played a very good game," he analysed.

"All in all, I like the energy that we gave in the second half. Our squad is depleted with injuries but we had to soldier on and asked players who are on the fringe to step up and play and they didn't do too bad," said Price.
