WESTERN BUREAU:

THE MEMBERS of the United States Congressional delegation, who were in the island to hold talks with the Government on improving ties between Jamaica and America, ended their visit with a bang last weekend when Montego Bay businessman Indru Dadlani hosted a splendid farewell reception in their honour.

A relaxing evening under the splendour of a full moon, the reception kicked off with cocktails shortly after 7:30 p.m.

This was followed by a brief ceremony in which the guests of honour were officially welcomed and given Jamaican mementos as tokens of their visit.

All the formalities now out of the way, it was time to bless the meal, and what is apparently the Dadlani style, prayer was conducted by Pastor Douglas Keane of the Montego Bay Family Church on the Rock.

With a little alcohol in their veins and a good food in their stomachs, it was time to party and the congressmen did not hesitate.

DANCED UP A STORM

They danced up a storm, and I do not mean just ordinary one step two step either.

They knew their moves, which they displayed with finesse, as the Montego Bay based Scotch band took them through the different genres of music.

One member of the delegation, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs, was having so much fun she took off both her jacket and shoes to create freer movement while she danced.

The group danced to songs such as Lionel Ritchie's All Night Long, Teddy Prendergast's Close the Door and Gregory Isaacs' Night Nurse, as if there was no tomorrow.

But, as they say, 'All good things must come to and end' and when the reception drew to a close shortly before midnight, there was not one Congressman who had not taken a twirl or four on the dance floor.

In the words of Congresswoman Tubbs, "(they) had a ball."

Among the other invited guests were: Ritz-Carlton's Michelle Rollins; Member of Parliament, Doctor Horace Chang; Member of Parliament Patrick Harris; Commanding Officer for St. James, Superintendent Warren Clarke; Regional Director for the Jamaica Tourist Board and Clive Taffe and Chief Executive Officer for MBJ Airports, Jorge Sales.
