Honour Guy Harvey
published: Sunday | December 11, 2005

The Editor, Sir

Any Jamaican who has had the opportunity and pleasure of travelling through the Fort Lauder-dale Airport in Florida, should be very proud to know that all the beautiful wall murals and columns so aptly decorated with paintings of marine life were done by a very proud and true Jamaican, whose forefathers were domiciled in beautiful Jamaica from the 1600s.

He is none other than world-renowned marine biologist, Dr. Guy Harvey, who is a graduate of the University of the West Indies. He is better known throughout Jamaica for his paintings of marine life, reproduced especially on T-shirts.

He has gone fishing all over the world, and has done research wherever he has had the good fortune to fish. He has championed the cause of catch and release among sport fishermen. At present, he is busy doing research at Nova University in Florida and hosting his TV show on the OLN network.

For someone who has done so much in his field of research, who is so highly thought of by his colleagues and one who often mentions the name of the country of his birth on his TV shows, he deserves one of the many honours given to Jamaican individuals who have excelled in their fields of endeavour.

I am, etc.,
