Windwards sharpen up at Melbourne
published: Thursday | December 1, 2005

THE WINDWARD Islands cricket team, short of match practice, worked out at the Melbourne Oval yesterday ahead of their opening match against Jamaica in the Carib Beer Series which starts at Alpart tomorrow.

"We didn't have any facilities at home for practice ... and speaking for myself, I haven't bowled a ball on a proper strip since the one-day tournament," captain Rawle Lewis said.

"This is the only practice we have going in the tournament," Lewis said after his team's training session.

However, the captain said that was not anything new and added: "We feel that we have been playing good enough cricket over the past two, three seasons to put up a good fight in this game."

Lewis, Junior Murray, Darren Sammy and Deighton Butler are the players with international experience in the 13-man squad.

Andre Fletcher, Craig Emmanuel, Alvin LaFeuille, Sergio Fedee, Hyron Shallow, Rommel Currency, Kenroy Peters, Shane Shillingford and Jean Paul complete the squad.

The coach is Ian Allen and manager Lockhart Sebastien.
