Jamaica College get by Ardenne in exciting encounter
published: Thursday | December 1, 2005

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA COLLEGE(JC) held off a late fourth-quarter surge by Ardenne High to come away with a 59-48 victory as play in the Southern Conference of the KFC-sponsored ISSA High School basketball competition continued yesterday at Ardenne High.

Eugene Dixon led the way for the men from Old Hope Road with an 18-point, six-rebound performance.

As they led pretty much from wire to wire in what proved to be an exciting encounter, JC attacked the basket with regularity to constantly get the better of a much slower Ardenne defence which failed to be effective despite its superior size.

On the offensive end, inaccurate passes led to numerous turnovers from which J.C were easily able to profit. However, turnovers by JC also allowed Ardenne to stay in the game and a run at the start of the fourth quarter saw them trim a 15-point lead to seven with a little more than five minutes left.

At that stage they were just a little too far behind and Kieanne Taite-Cesar, who had 18 points and eight steals, ensured that JC preserved their lead as he relentlessly attacked the Ardenne basket to seal victory for his team.

Khary Grant led the way for Ardenne with 11 points.

In the day's other results, a 40-point performance by Ovando Dunn led the way for Tivoli in a 59-32 thrashing of Vauxhall High at the National Stadium, while 23 points by Javaughn Bailey helped St. Catherine to a 62-33 victory over Meadowbrook at home.

Under-16 results: Ardenne 55 Jamaica College 36, Meadowbrook 30 St Catherine 15.
