THIRTY MEMBERS of the South St. Catherine Police Division are scheduled to appear before a Court of Inquiry to answer departmental charges relating to the disappearance of two service weapons from the Greater Portmore Police Station two years ago.
The men were charged departmentally following several months of investigation conducted by detectives assigned to the Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI).
The investigation was launched after an M-16 rifle and a .38 revolver went missing from the firearm safe in the guardroom of the station. The probe was ordered by retired Commissioner of Police, Francis Forbes.
Speaking with The Gleaner last night, chairman of the Police Federation, Corporal Raymond Wilson, said the federation will be providing legal representation for all 30 members.
"At the same time, we will be seeking a meeting with Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas because we have some concerns," Mr. Wilson told The Gleaner last night.
Yesterday Commissioner Thomas said he had not seen the ruling relating to the charges against the policemen. However, he said he was was willing to accommodate the Central Executive of the Police Federation in a meeting.
