The pinch of reproach

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WITH ONLY a month to draw the curtains of 2005 down, the murder rate in Jamaica has catapulted to a record high of nearly 1500 human beings. For a country such as ours, with the most churches per square mile, the murder rate is certainly painting a very unwelcoming picture. What kind of future should we look forward to if this heinous taking of lives is left to run its own course?
I will take the unpopular stand by lifting up the prophet's hand and pointing a people to the Bible, the sure word of God. The wise man Solomon penned in Proverbs 14:34 'Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach unto any people.' Jamaicans are feeling the pinch of reproach as a result of their scant regard for the sound, moral and divine teachings of God, having substituted His word with their unrighteous doings.
It is time we address the heart of the problem; it is time that the people of Jamaica go back to the drawing board - 'not' the Minister of National Security or the Commissioner - but to God himself.
