Portmore blank Wadadah 3-0
published: Wednesday | October 26, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

PORTMORE UNITED bounced back from Sunday's draw with Waterhouse in emphatic fashion after a comprehensive victory over Wadadah at the Ferdie Neita Park in Wray and Nephew National Premier League action yesterday.

Portmore's 3-0 win was sparked by a first-minute goal from Ashaine Murray, that was supported by a well-deserved brace from Kemeel Wolfe in the 31st and 40th minutes of play.

The victory allowed Portmore to join Waterhouse on 15 points and leapfrog them in the standings with a better goal difference.

In truth, Portmore benefited from a lacklustre first half from Wadadah, who never seemed too interested in the game.

FLOODING DISPLACED TEAM

"I thought the team played unlike we wanted them to. We lost the game from the first half," said Anthony 'Follis' Williams, who indicated that flooding in Montego Bay had depleted his team and diminished its focus.

The first goal certainly showed a lack of focus as a free shot offered to Jermaine Simpson was partially saved before Murray nodded in the rebound from goalkeeper Gavin Barker.

The second showed even more lackadaisical play as an innocuous ball that should have been shielded out by a Wadadah defender was pounced upon by Simpson, who crossed from the by-line for Wolfe to tap into a net made vacant by the pull of the cross.

Wolfe was soon again in the action as Wadadah lost possession on their left flank.

Wolfe controlled a low, hard cross and followed with a well-placed effort as he lost his balance to give himself the brace.

WENT INTO CRUISE CONTROL

With the sting taken out of the game after the third goal, Portmore went into cruise control and were never bothered by Wadadah, despite the latter's improvement in the second half.

"This is a game that on paper we should have won and we did just that," said Portmore coach Paul Young.

"Scoring three goals is a good sign. We made some adjustments today and they worked well," said the Portmore coach who admitted that goals had been hard to come by for his team recently.

The competition will have another rescheduled game today, as Boys' Town will play another home fixture away from home against Reno at the Spring Complex. That game begins at 3:30 p.m.

Wadadah will be in action again tomorrow when they take on Arnett Gardens at Jarrett Park in a 5:00 p.m. fixture.

GOALSHEET

Portmore - 3

Ashaine Murray (1st), Kemeel Wolfe (31st and 40th)

Wadadah - 0
