published: Wednesday | September 14, 2005

LAWSON

SIDELINED JAMAICAN fast bowler Jermaine Lawson has been named in a 30-man West Indies training squad to prepare for the coming tour of Australia which begins late next month.

Lawson, who recently had surgery on an injured ankle, has already been ruled out of Jamaica's squad for the President's Cup, the region's premier one-day competition which starts on October 2 in Guyana.

The physical trainer for the national team, David Bernard Snr., said Lawson could be out for up to three weeks.

"The doctor said after three weeks he will be able to start training," Bernard said.

Meanwhile, apart from Lawson, eight other Jamaicans have been included in the training party.

The other Jamaicans named in the squad are: Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Wavell Hinds, Chris Gayle, Carlton Baugh, Xavier Marshall, Daren Powell and Dwight Washington.

Letters of invitation were accompanied by the draft match/tour contract that the players would be required to sign if selected.

Players accepting the invitation are required to sign the letter and return it to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) by 5:00 p.m on September 19.

The training party is completed by Omari Banks, Tino Best, Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Deighton Butler, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Corey Collymore, Narsingh Deonarine, Fidel Edwards, Daren Ganga, Ryan Hinds, Sylvester Joseph, Brian Lara, Dave Mohammed, Runako Morton, Denesh Ramdin, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons, Devon Smith and Dwayne Smith.

The camp will take place at the Three Ws Oval, Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados and the players will assemble from September 24.

The camp will consist of two days of training sessions followed by a four-day game from September 27-30.
