Scott and Annette Kerr.
SCOTT KERR and Annette Fletcher had a magical and fabulous wedding ceremony.
Sounds of thunder and sparks of lightning permeated the clouds on the morning of Sunday, August 28. It would rain despite the wishes of guests attending the much anticipated wedding.
"Onoo stop the noise, it not going to rain," was the oft repeated refrain said by wedding stylist Lorraine Clunie of Elegant Weddings, But she was wrong. With make-up on, hair well adorned with a red rose coronet attached to a veil, and wearing an ivory-claret floor-length gown, the bride made her way down the stairs of Sea Kerr Guest House into the car.
Huge raindrops preceded her entry to the vehicle and panic set in. The ceremony scheduled for 3: p.m. at The Old Steamer Beach in Hopewell, Hanover seemed like a never-to-be-event. After the appointed hour, guests began suggesting that the ceremony be moved to the reception area at the guesthouse. Others muttered, "that's why they should have gone with a church wedding."
However Ms. Fletcher decided rain or shine, nothing would stop her wedding. After all, it had been postponed at least twice before. She demanded her lipstick, and set off to the beach.
Guests walked on white sand beach, scattered with bougainvillaea petals blown from the makeshift arch decorated with coconut branches.
Standing under umbrellas, guests again became apprehensive, there was no tent, but the day belonged to bride and groom and nothing would spoil it.
Like a child with his favourite candy bar, the groom came dancing and grinning to the beach. His cheerful mood received rhythmic claps and shouts of "Scott, Scott", from the gathering. At the arch the groom stood adorned in a Dela Reta Ivory tuxedo teamed with claret-coloured vest and accents. Officiating minister Royland Thompson stood by his side.
Soon, screams from the waiting guests signalled the blushing bride's arrival. She was escorted by her sister, Marlene Brinkel to the altar.
Like magic, as the minister commenced the ceremony, the rain stopped.
When Rev. Thompson gave the groom permission to kiss his wife, Mr. Kerr tenderly clasped her cheeks in his palms and gently kissed her lips. There was more to come; still holding his wife's cheeks he leaned over, whispered in his bride's ears and softly kissed her cheeks. Guests cheered loudly.
Some of us were overcome with tears. This was further proof of how romantic the groom is. Remember, he had penned the 100-word marriage proposal poem underwater in 15 minutes and boldly sent his picture for the public proposal.
Thank you
