Doc's rape case continues
published: Thursday | July 28, 2005

ATTORNEY-AT-LAW Hugh Thompson yesterday cross-examined the complainant in the rape and indecent assault case against 31-year-old gynaecologist Dr. Matt Myrie, for two-and-a-half hours .

The woman has accused Dr. Myrie of raping her when she was a patient at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in February.

Resident Magistrate Desiree Alleyne is presiding at the preliminary inquiry which will continue on August 12 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Dr. Myrie is on bail in the sum of $500,000 with one or two sureties.

He is charged with two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault.

It is being alleged that on February 26 he committed the offences on a patient in the ultrasound room at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital where he is attached .

Meanwhile, nurse Janet Spence is charged with attempting to bribe the complainant in Dr. Myrie's case.
