Caribbean gift and craft show launched
published: Sunday | June 26, 2005

Dennise Williams, Staff Reporter

FirstCaribbean International Bank (FCIB) will be the lead sponsor of a major artistic event along with the state agency Jampro to foster a regional approach to wealth creation through arts and craft.

The Caribbean Export Develop-ment Agency launched its Caribbean Gift and Craft Show (CGCS) at Jampro's Trafalgar Road offices on Wednesday.

A dynamic role

Speaking about the importance of this show to be held in Barbados during September 22 to 25, Milton Brady, managing director of FCIB said, "FCIB is the largest bank in the Caribbean and we are uniquely poised to play a dynamic role in this kind of regional development.

"The CGCS initiative has the objective of creating employment opportunities, strengthening existing businesses and stimulating regional entrepreneurship. The CGCS, in its 12 years, has made positive impact on export sales in the handicraft and gift sectors and this is to be heartily applauded."

The CGCS will bring together artists and artisans from over 25 countries and cover the range of works from ceramics and paintings to woven goods.

There will be retailers, interior designers and spa buyers.

Over 200 exhibitors are expected to show their works to 300 buyers with 11,000 visitors on hand.

The proposed budget for Jamaican exhibitors is US$1,415. This includes airfare on BWIA, meals, and hotel for seven nights, booths, miscellaneous and registration costs.

However, costs can be reduced somewhat if registration is done by July 31 and booths are shared.
