Missing girl, arms found in pre-dawn raid
published: Sunday | May 1, 2005

Nagra Plunkett, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU: FIFTEEN MEN were detained, two illegal firearms recovered and a missing teenage girl found during a massive police and military operation in St. James yesterday.

Superintendent John Morris, crime chief for the Area One Police Division told The Sunday Gleaner that at least five of the detainees are wanted in connection with serious crimes committed in the parish.

The men, whose names are being withheld pending further investigations, were picked up during the pre-dawn operation at premises in the Granville, Pitfour and Fuller areas. A .38 revolver, a homemade pistol along with ammunition were also seized during the raid.

Supt. Morris described the operation as "very successful", pointing out that the exercise "targeted men who were actively involved in crimes including murders, shootings, robberies and break-ins".

The police say that a 15-year-old girl, who reportedly escaped from the Granville Place of Safety in Trelawny about two weeks ago, was taken from a house where she was found in the company of a man with whom it is believed she shared a common-law relationship.
