Cruel intentions
published: Sunday | May 1, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM absolutely repulsed and ashamed of that malicious and filthy act committed by the students of The Immaculate Conception High School.

These students are old enough to know that what they did is wrong and absolutely cruel. As a past student (Class of 1999), I am in absolute shock and horror. The thought of drinking someone's saliva immediately induces feelings of severe nausea.

These students could have put poison or some other hazardous material in that bottle of water and you could have had a murder case.

They must take the consequences for their actions which is EXPULSION!!! This teacher could have been exposed to illnesses and diseases via the saliva. There are so many other nauseating things that one thinks of when you imagine drinking someone's saliva, and the school does not think that this serious?

This incident is a clear indicator of the lawlessness and blatant lack of respect for authority that has become the essence of Jamaica. By not expelling these students, we are saying that what they have done is not very serious.

They have disgraced the name of the Immaculate Conception High School, embarrassed both past and present students, disgraced The Franciscan Sisters and certainly showed what they think of the present administration.

Immaculate represents pride, decency and integrity; now everyone is speaking of the fact that Immaculate has gone to the 'pits'.

As our society and everything around us crashes, crude boorish behaviour becomes acceptable. However, if this is the type of nastiness that is going to be treated as a minor offence, then it would be better to have the school's name changed, as clearly there is nothing immaculate about it.

Disgusted, enraged and downright horrified.

I am, etc.,
