Guardian Life polishes up China return for Webb
published: Tuesday | February 15, 2005

JAMAICA'S TOP-RATED table tennis player, Nigel Webb, was recently sponsored $500,000 by Guardian Life.

The money will be used to assist Webb's return to table tennis' mecca, China, to further develop his skills.

While in China Webb, the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games double silver medallist will train twice daily in the prestigious Shanghai Institute of Physical Education, the training centre for the Chinese Table Tennis Association.

At the Institute, he will receive high level coaching and benefit from practising with top quality players.

PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENTS

Webb, who has his eyes set on making Jamaica's team to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will also participate in provincial tournaments, from which he will gain a wealth of experience.

A fifth place finisher at the Caribbean Championships, he was also semi-finalist at the 2004 Atlanta Open as well as a former US Open under-10 champion.

He will leave the island next month for China where he will spend one year.

Earl Moore, president and CEO of Guardian Life, said his company was delighted to assist.

"We are pleased that Guardian Life is able to make a meaningful contribution to the growth and development of Nigel, who seeks to pursue his lifelong dream of playing tennis at the highest level."
