Partial version of truth
published: Sunday | January 30, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ONCE AGAIN the politician has chosen to 'write' a partial version of the truth. Jamaica is inhabited by the 'dons', 'haves' and 'have nots'. (Translation of 'dons' being anyone above the law be he an area leader or a banker).

The 'haves' get to pay taxes and fees, income tax, education tax, property tax, drivers licence fees, firearm licences, luxury tax on alcohol and cigarettes and the list goes on and on.

The haves don't have a say in how their money is spent, they give to charity both in cash and kind, yet they have to seek alternatives to the education and health system. Many a 'don' is not in the tax net or circumvents the system. Yet the politician continuously seeks to blame the haves, effectively dividing and ruling. Now all except the 'dons' live in fear.

I look forward to the day that the politicians tell the people the truth, accept responsibility, educate the people, let the 'cost cutting' begin with them and free Jamaica from this tyranny!

I am, etc.,

'THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN'
