THE EDITOR, Sir:KINGSTON AND Saint Andrew has benefited tremendously under the leadership and direction of its Mayor, Councillor Desmond McKenzie. His attention to detail and his commitment to the development of the city are seen and felt everywhere. As we begin 2005, we expect the same leadership initiative from our Mayor and stand ready to aid him in whatever way we can. We believe that excellent work must be recognized and encouraged!
My firm support of the Mayor comes as a result of a letter that my company wrote him on December 17, 2004 concerning the state of the Mayor's official residence at 7 Argyle Road. Due to neglect, the property was in a serious state of disrepair and had started to pose a safety hazard to the community and our employees.
Within days of receiving our letter, the Mayor responded to us and assured us that the matter would be addressed. True to his word, a clean-up crew was organised in the time that he said it would be, and restored the property to some semblance of order.
We thank the Mayor for the consideration and respect that he has shown us, his fellow citizens, and for his unwavering courage in the face of adversity. We wish him a speedy recovery in his time of illness, and hope that he will soon return to his position as a stalwart of change.
Thank you, Mayor McKenzie.
