Paul A. Reid, Staff ReporterWESTERN BUREAU: LAST SEASON'S beaten finalists, Titchfield High, scored the widest margin of victory in yesterday's opening set of matches in the inter-zone round of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup competition.
Marvin Fagan scored a first-half brace, while Denroy Dennis scored his 10th goal of the season as Titchfield rushed past Annotto Bay High 3-0 in their Group Six game at Carder Park.
Former champions Cornwall College and Clarendon College both scored 2-0 wins over Brown's Town and St. Elizabeth Technical respectively while William Knibb Memorial, Godfrey Stewart High and Mile Gully all scored 1-0 wins.
Andre Graham got Mile Gully's goal in the 60th minute against Porus.
ZONE J GAME WASHED OUT
Meanwhile, the Zone J game between Dinthill Technical and Bog Walk that will help decide the winners of that bracket was washed out yesterday and will be replayed at 10:00 a.m. today.
This game will help decide which teams will meet in the remaining two inter-zone games that will be played tomorrow. The zone winners, Dinthill or Old Harbour, will play Garvey Maceo while the runners-up will meet Glenmuir High.
At Jarrett Park, Cornwall College dominated Brown's Town but had just two goals, both coming in the second half, to show for it.
Andre Lee wasted no fewer than three chances in the first five minutes while a tame shot from Jahvon Russell was well saved by goalkeeper Brian Knowles.
GOAL ATTEMPTS
Late in the first half, Thio Daye hit the left upright with a scorching shot while Russell hit the ball high over the goal after Andrew Brown had wormed his way through the Brown's Town defence, beating four players in the process.
Russell gave Cornwall the lead three minutes into the second half when he headed home from point-blank range and then turned provider in the 83rd minute for Charles Hines to ram home.
