St Catherine PC to remove illegal settlers
published: Monday | September 27, 2004

THE ST. Catherine Parish Council will be embarking on an exercise to remove illegal settlers on the Old Harbour beach, this week.

"The St. Catherine Parish Council wishes to advise illegal settlers occupying the Old Harbour Bay Fishing Beach that a clean-up exercise will be carried out next week to have them removed," a release from Council said.

According to the Council it was brought to its attention that persons have erected houses on the beach in areas designated for the storage of fishing boats.

"This is a practice which is strictly prohibited by the Council," the release said.

The Parish Council said garbage, dead animals and human waste have been strewn across the beach which could result in serious public health problems.

In accordance with the law, the Council has decided that it will be taking steps to prevent further pollution by demolishing these structures.
