COUNCILLOR FOR the Ocho Rios Division of the St. Ann Parish Council
Carol Jackson has accused North East St. Ann Member of Parliament Shahine Robinson of doing nothing to improve the environmental problems in Ocho Rios.
She charged that, apart from lip service, Mrs. Robinson was always 'missing in action' when it came to participating in co-operative and collaborative efforts to get improvement work done in the constituency.
In a press release issued this week, Mrs. Jackson also accused the Member of Parliament of not consulting with councillors or providing them with any financial assistance to carry out work in their divisions.
She said that other previous Members of Parliament had seen it fit to work with their councillors regardless of political affiliation but that Mrs. Robinson is unwilling to do so.
Mrs. Jackson issued the statement in response to recent comments about the dirty state of Ocho Rios and the need for the town to be cleaned up.
Councillor Jackson pointed out that for years she had been making representations for the resort town to be cleaned up and said that it is a pity that it had to take the intervention of the Director of Tourism for this matter to get the attention of the media.
