To true mothers
published: Sunday | May 9, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON THIS Mother's Day, let us remember that motherhood is more than biological. Mothers support their children economically, psychologically, academically, being themselves supported and helped by their caring, responsible partners.

Most of all, the leaders of a family need to be in touch with the Maker of us all. Those who mother the most and best are very often not biological mothers or they go beyond that function. When a woman prays for the children of Jamaica, when she tries to set an example in modest dress and posture, proactive financial habits, manners, courtesy and positive attitudes, correcting, motivating, helping, then whether she is biological mother or not, she is a true mother.

I challenge mothers to deepen commitment to husband, family, career, help point the way to the Father Almighty. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers.

I am, etc.,

C.D. SMITH
