NWC not to blame for YZ fire
published: Sunday | May 9, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM compelled to respond to certain falsehoods contained in a 'Letter to the Editor' published on Thursday May 6, 2004 and which apparently was the source of a news article published on the same day.

Both the Letter to the Editor and the news article clearly say that inadequate water supply is to be blamed for the destruction by fire of the YZ Industries. That is categorically not true as piped water was available in the mains at the fire hydrants nearest the location. Indeed, water supplied by the National Water Commission was used from the hydrant by the fire fighters.

These facts are not only confirmed by NWC personnel but also by the fire fighters themselves.

It is most unfortunate that the tremendous effort being made by the National Water Commission in supplying Mandeville with water would be made more difficult by such falsehoods.

I am etc.,

CHARLES BUCHANAN

Corporate Public

Relations Manager

National Water Commission
