Divisive US campaign ahead
published: Tuesday | March 16, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FOR THE next several months, the two multimillion dollar political campaigns sponsored by the Democratic and Republican parties will wage a propaganda war against each other in the United States the likes of which has never been seen, all for the purpose of getting one person, one single person, the job of President for the next four years.

Not to mention the incredible waste of taxpayer funds, the nature of the fight divisive, deceitful, and just plain dirty will undoubtedly do a genuine disservice to not only the truth, but also the spirit of America itself.

The U.S. government will spend billions in an effort to protect its so-called 'national' interests around the world. Literally millions of citizens will go without adequate health care and even more will find total inadequacy in a leaderless, public educational system that is slowly being destroyed by the self-serving ineptitude of a handful of politicians in the firm grip of right-wing, conservative, religious interests.

Though we are about the same age, unlike the man who will get this big job, I will work with no health care, no retirement assured, and with only the feeble promise of a failing social security system down the road. Though I am a simple, poor man, from what I am told, I am more honest, sincere, and intelligent than either of the candidates. What puzzles me is that no one asked me to run.

I am, etc.,

ED McCOY
