By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff ReporterRIVAL GANG members of the Franklyn Town community in east Kingston has signed a peace accord, signalling the end of a bloody feud between Upper and Lower York Street.
The signing took place a week ago at the Franklyn Town New Testament Church of Christ, witnessed by members of the church and a police party led by Deputy Superintendent Dorick Sinclair and Woman Corporal Tomielee Chambers.
The tension was high in the community, until the police intervened and jailed the leadership of both gangs.
"We have planned a special church service for February 29, inviting the community and members of both gangs," said Supt. Sinclair
Having brokered peace, the police are now in the process of identifying projects that they can assist with in the community.
Franklyn Town is the latest among several Corporate Area communities that have made progress in uniting warring factions. Recently residents of Brook Valley and Sherlock Crescent in Duhaney Park signed a peace accord, following a gang war which claimed a number of lives in that community.
The police said they have also implemented a number of programmes in the adjoining communities of Mountain View Avenue, Kingston, where there have been a series of gunfights between lawmen and gunmen.
