Repeating the past
published: Tuesday | February 10, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The Old Capital, Spanish Town, is repeating its historical past.

It was dubbed as a notorious city in the past and frequent flare-ups, political and otherwise occurred which resulted in many lives being lost.

What is happening there now (the killings) could be referred to as a recurring decimal. What bothers me was how a politician claims to know those criminal leaders and gunmen and now talking about seeking to broker a truce with them. Why weren't their names given to the police?

The country is undergoing a serious crisis, in which there is no respect for law and order and we are fast heading into a state of terrorism.

The people from whom you are expecting assistance in destroying our number one enemy, are by disguise fostering this evil.

Mr. Editor, what more can the security forces do, because they are at risk in carrying out their legitimate duties. They are demotivated from top to bottom. This is a problem to be tackled by all of us.

I am, etc.,

E.N. PERKINS
