WESTERN BUREAU:

ONE HIGH COURT Judge, two well-read attorneys and a successful businessman made up the list of Capricornians who celebrated their birthdays in style last weekend, kicking off the party season in Montego Bay.

Although the event was held in honour of '28-year-old' Cornwall Bar Association President Clayton Morgan, he chose to share the moment with his friends, Justice Hazel Harris, attorney-at-law Ronald Paris and his best friend Fred Smith.

And, believe it or not, there was neither skipping nor dancing around, except for Doris Morgan whose love of life and music makes it impossible for her to keep still, but the intimate and fabulous settings on the sprawling, well-manicured lawn at Fred Smith's Coral Gardens residence signalled this social season will be a great one.

The Morgans invited their guests to a 6:00 p.m. revelry, which moved into gear by 8:00 p.m., when the hilarious Reverend Canon Calvin C McIntyre of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Bronx, New York set the pace for an evening of mirth.

Blessed by the prayers from the Rev. Canon McIntyre, a much less 'preacher' Clinton Pickering took control of the microphone and allowed Morgan's friend to take advantage of his sleeping habits, bird shooting conquests and his record for eating 28 bowls of porridge at a contest against the late Victor 'Buddha' Robinson during his youth days at Cornwall College.

"Clayton is a very generous man, who will give you the last piece of food on his plate," said Mary Chambers, "The operative word here is last. No matter what you say about Clayton, he is a very good friend, so long as you don't want money from him."

Godfrey Dyer was the kindest to Clayton, and Fred Smith could not relate the birthday boy's trip to Cuba for fear of repercussion, but he did say his friend was the 100 per cent man. The same person he left on a bus in Paris, France, because he fell asleep on his way to their hotel.

Clayton's friends and acquaintances who turned out, included, Justice Paulette Williams, Basil Johnson, Dollis Campbell, Audrey Anderson, Lorna Francis and Abe Zakaryan, Dawn and her son Chumu Paris, Glenda and Brian Miller and Viviene McDonald.

And if ever I was at a loss for words as to what to write on Sunday evening, my senses were ignited by the fragrance that emanated from another legal mind in the midst, Courtney Hamilton, whose Dolce and Gabbana played havoc with my inner being.
