THE EDITOR, Sir:I AM a member of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) and some would argue that I have no business commenting on the goings-on in the JLP. But I am a Jamaican first so anything that affects Jamaica is my business.
Edward Seaga's resignation from the JLP at this stage would not be in the best interest of Edward Seaga, the JLP nor Jamaica.
Jamaica needs a change of government now. Jamaica cannot change to the NDM now.
The JLP has the historical track record (compare the 60s and the 80s with the 1970s and the 1990s). The JLP has the current vigour and competence to lead the country out of the present mess. And at the present time Edward Seaga is the right man to lead.
There are other competent leaders in the JLP. But those who call vehemently for Mr. Seaga's resignation must know that Bruce Golding does not yet have a seat in Parliament and thus could not be made Leader of the Opposition. They must also know that other potential leaders cannot command the across-the-board support in the short term.
The beleaguered Seaga must clear up his financial matters and mend the remaining internal fences.
It is said that the money people will not support a Seaga-led JLP. However, it is the conscience vote of Jamaicans that will turn this country round, not bought votes. If we do not put curry goat politics behind us DAAG NYAM WE SUPPA!!
I am, etc.
