"JUSTICE, TRUTH be Ours" is the theme of the annual National Leadership Prayer Breakfast to be held next Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston.
Dr. Herbert Thompson, President of Northern Caribbean University, (NCU) is the speaker at this year's service which, like in previous years, will be seeking to build unity in the nation.
Speaking at a press conference put on by the Prayer Breakfast Committee, chairman, Lascelles Newman, said the theme was timely and necessary in light of the problems facing the country.
"We haven't stopped often to note the relationship between justice and truth. This is one of the things we will be asking our leaders to do, tell the nation the truth. Tell the truth about the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and the Terrorism (Prevention) Bill," he said.
The National Leadership Prayer Breakfast was born out of the Church's concern for peace, justice, reconciliation and unity in the nation. This concern was heightened in 1981 (the year the breakfast was first staged) after a bloody general election in 1980.
The Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS)-sponsored event is aimed at fostering greater unity in the nation particularly among the country's leaders.
At each staging of the breakfast it is customary for a special offering be collected towards helping the poor and destitute. This year's focus will be on the homeless in the Corporate Area.
