Work to restart on Brown's Town market
published: Wednesday | December 17, 2003

By Leslie McLean, Gleaner Writer

WORK ON the Brown's Town market which was halted over one year ago, is expected to restart on January 5, 2004. This information was disclosed at the monthly meeting of the St. Ann Parish Council on Thursday, December 11.

Secretary/manager of the Council, Dorothy Delgado, read a letter from the Ministry of Local Government dated November 14, replying to a letter of August 21 from the Council about cessation of work at the market.

Mrs. Delgado noted that the original contractor, Cooper and Associates, did not perform satisfactorily and after a tedious exercise, a new contract was awarded to W. A. Reid Construction.

Work is expected to commence on January 5, with completion date May 4, 2004 and Mrs. Delgado is hoping that the date mentioned would be kept.

Looking at the status of projects under the Parish Infrastructure Development Programme (PIDP), she revealed that plans and estimates were prepared for the Ocho Rios market to include work on drainage system, sanitary block, roofing, lighting the northern section between market and main street.

Mrs. Delgado said the Council was hampered by lack of budgetary support.
