Hoteliers expect winter windfall
published: Wednesday | December 17, 2003

WITH THE winter tourist season only a few days old, operators of hotels and attractions on the south coast are expecting a windfall.

The 2003-2004 season is expected to be one of the best that might be experienced on the south coast of St. Elizabeth, Clarendon, Westmoreland and Hanover.

"We are expecting a great winter tourist season, it looks very promising. The tourism products on the south coast has improve significantly. We have what it takes to attract visitors to this part of the country, because the south coast in recent times has more guest houses, more attractions centres and little or no tourist harassment," said Jason Henzell, operator of Jakes Cottages in Treasure Beach.

Mr. Henzell said that some of the positive signs of the season ahead are significant forward bookings from travel agencies, a very active marketing campaign by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the attractive nature of the tourism product.

According to operations manager of the famous Lover's Leap attractions, A.C. Matterson, the property was preparing for what is expected to be a good winter season.

Efforts to get a comment from Volney Williams, regional director of the JTB, were unsuccessful as he was said to be out of office.
