Pegasus lights up Christmas
published: Wednesday | December 17, 2003

AHH, IT'S beginning to feel like Christmas.

Children gathered round a Christmas tree, carols being sung, and... Santa Claus?

Yes, jolly old St. Nick, was present at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel last Wednesday night as the hotel held its annual tree lighting ceremony. Specially invited guests jostled to get a look at the action.

The child group Choice was simply adorable. First they gave us Psalm 100 in dialect and then sang; the audience captivated by their innocence. The Spirit of Excellence Dance Ensemble was electrifying so much so that they almost gave into prompting for an encore. Solo dancer Kevin Moore, miming by Terrence Daniegan and friends and the soothing sounds of Noel Peck and Ann Trout, all within an hour or so.

The Pegasus, known for some wild parties and great moments, also have an admirable chorale. Yes, they gave us a syrupy sweet medley of Christmas favourites. O Holy Night, We Three Kings, Angels We Have Heard On High and Go Tell It On The Mountain were among their repertoire. When they crooned their final words, the tree's lights awoke to illuminate a now dark lobby. But the gathering was not expected to just sit there and be entertained. Oh no, they had to participate by lending their voices (even those like me who can't sing) to perennial season favourites Joy To The World and Deck The Halls.

The previously mentioned Santa with his bell and all, was a busy man collecting gifts from guests that he will deliver to children's homes. It warms the heart to know that it's not all fun and entertainment but a meaningful experience as well. After all, it was no surprise that the sorrel went so fast.

Undoubtedly, it's that time of the year again!
