Who's who for finance committee
published: Friday | December 12, 2003

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

A NUMBER OF high-profile members of the business and financial sectors have been named to sit on the influential finance committee of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), The Gleaner has learned.

The Gleaner heard from credible sources this week that the JFF is set to make the announcements soon but president Crenston Boxhill said yesterday that the new executive was set to meet at its St. Lucia Crescent headquarters today and the makeup of the committees including three new ones would be on the agenda.

DECLINED TO COMMENT

While confirming the JFF was set to form three new committees: Youth Development, Women's Football and Infrastructure, he declined to comment on the make up of the other committees, including the influential and powerful finance committee.

"We sat down and discussed the people we would like to have on the new committees and have made some contacts but we are still awaiting some confirmations," Boxhill said.

Even so, he said it was not a done deal with those they had spoken to as the nominations had to be verified by the executive and management committees of the JFF before they could be confirmed.

Boxhill said he was wary of giving out the names of persons who were yet to confirm their interest or had yet to be approved for the key financial committee.

Maintaining the same stance he took at the launch of his team's manifesto on the eve of the JFF Congress last month, Boxhill said: "We don't think it is prudent to go around calling the names of the people we have approached until everything is in place."

He said the announcements would be made soon enough when all the names had been confirmed.

He said that the naming of the Youth Development committee was in keeping with one of their promises in the lead-up to the elections, adding that this area would be given some priority by the new administration.
