Irwindale citizens want answers
published: Friday | November 21, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE CITIZENS of Irwindale would like to bring to your attention the construction of a perimeter fence/wall at the entrance of our community where our main road intersects with the Sign main road.

We note the following concerns:

The perimeter wall is so high as to obstruct the view of vehicles travelling along the Sign main road.

The wall seems to exceed the height prescribed and permissible by law.

The area enclosed by the wall will be used for commercial activity, which would impact negatively on the value of property in the community.

The construction of this proposed commercial facility violates residential laws and restrictions.

The proposed facility poses the threat of noise pollution.

A well, which provides water to our and other communities, is on the property and any sewage facilities installed would severely compromise the water safety, raising health concerns.

To facilitate construction, water has been diverted onto the main roadway causing significant erosion and deterioration of the road surface.

A structure constructed opposite the walled facility presents a security risk since attackers could easily hide behind it.

Was a permit granted for the construction of this facility?

We would greatly appreciate prompt attention to this matter and advice as to our rights as citizens from any competent authority.

We are, etc.,

MARVA MARRETT

Vice President

ELISE SPENCE

Secretary
