THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WISH to use this medium to express my shock and total disappointment at the authority responsible for organising the one-way routes which were enforced on Sunday for the football match.
I am a resident of Stadium Gardens and we have five different routes to get unto Arthur Wint Drive in order to enter my scheme. On Sunday shortly after the football match was over all five entrances were blocked. I was roughed up by two policemen when I tried to explain to them that I live in the scheme and was unable to get home by vehicle. One even went as far as to tell me to "guh fine somewhey fi cool out fi a 'our or 'our-an-a-alf".
I had no reason to go anywhere else, but I was forced to go to Sovereign Centre and waited for over an hour before I was allowed to go home.
This is not the first big football match held at the National Stadium, but this is the first time (to my knowledge) that Stadium Gardens was out of bounds to vehicular traffic. The least they could have done was to allow traffic to enter Arthur Wint Drive from Mountain View Avenue, as at least one out of five routes would have been accessible, but NONE. Why should we not be able to enter our homes because the powers that be fail to think?
I am quite certain there will be other matches and I sincerely hope we will not be inconvienced as we were on Sunday last.
I am, etc.
