By Egeton Newman, Gleaner WriterSPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine: Custos of St. Catherine, the Rev. Sophia Azan, has said that she is deeply concerned at the conditions of several police stations across the parish.
"The conditions of some of these facilities is appalling and are in need of urgent attention, so as to allow the men and women who work in them to feel more comfortable carrying out their duties," the Custos said. "I am perturbed at the conditions of these facilities, especially the Ewarton Police Station," which according to Custos Azan must be given urgent attention, so as to make the officers minds work more comfortable.
Another concern the Custos shared with The Gleaner on Friday, at her Linstead residence, during a courtesy call made on her by the JCDC St. Catherine Festival Queen finalists, was that of the future of our nation's youth.
"The increase in criminal activities today is due to the lack of opportunities for our young people and we also need to address this problem which is, of course, putting a strain on our security forces," she said. "I think we need to provide some projects to which young people can be actively engaged, we have to pay more attention to them."
The Custos urged the beauty queens to keep their eyes on their goals and put God first in all that they do.
