Soldiers seek revenge
published: Wednesday | February 26, 2003

By Nodley Wright, Staff Reporter

THE JAMAICA Defence Force (JDF) will today aim to turn the tables on defending National Premier League champions Arnett Gardens when they meet in the second leg of the JNBS Federation Cup Knockout competition.

Game time is 3:00 p.m. at Up Park Camp.

In the first game, the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League team was beaten 2-0 by Arnett Gardens at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex. Today, according to coach Warrant Officer II Alverie Ledgister, could see a different outcome.

"We are coming to attack and score at least three goals," Ledgister said.

"We know that Arnett Gardens are a difficult team to beat but we were encouraged by our first game against them. In that game we got behind their defence on a number of occasions but did not capitalise," he said.

Ledgister reasoned that if his players were able to do that at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex then they should have an even better chance at their home ground.

"If we could get behind their defence with such regularity at their home then playing at Camp where the players are more relaxed, I am confident that we cane take them down."

The players who will be charged with the responsibility of taking down the men from "Jungle" are sharp shooter Marlon Dyke and former Harbour View striker Mark Miller who played for the JDF previously while serving his first six-year term.

Ledgister's charges will probably have a good chance of taking down the 'Junglists' as Arnett Gardens coach Jerome Waite will rest some of his stars.

"We have the general team that we will be selecting from but new players will be given a chance as we will be resting some of our keys players," Waite said.

While stating that he will be fielding a weakened team, Waite made it clear that they will not be taking the Soldiers for granted. "This JDF team is a very strong team and if given the room to play they will play.

"One of their strong points is shooting from long range. They are a very fit team," he observed. For his team though, the focus will be on "going out there and enjoying a good game of football".
