PORT ANTONIA, Portland:
THE LOCAL arm of the Kiwanis Club in Port Antonio, Portland, officially reopened two rehabilitated projects last Wednesday.
One commuter bus stop shelter, along with a 'welcome to Port Antonio' sign, were rehabilitated at Bryan's Bay in the parish.
The reopening of the projects coincides with the visit of Kiwanis International Governor, Bill Stuart. The Governor, a Canadian national, is enjoying his fourth visit to the island.
"We will be visiting several projects in Portland, including one in Buff Bay," said the Governor. "We will be spending a little time in Port Antonio, after which we will journey to Moneague in St. Ann, to form a new Kiwanis Club," he added.
Local branch president, Alison Francis, told The Gleaner that both projects will be monitored and maintained. "We have also done some landscaping, and have tendered a garden," she said.
"Yes, it has been a lot of hard work, and our members remained dedicated, but we were, however, hampered along the way due to the unavailability of funds, to complete the project on time," she added.
Both projects upon their completion were painted in their traditional Kiwanis colour of blue and gold.
